Does quartz need sealing?
No. Quartz is an engineered slab of ground stone bound in resin, so the surface is non-porous and does not need the periodic sealing that granite and marble require. That is one of the main practical reasons it has replaced granite as the default choice in remodels.
Can you put a hot pan on quartz?
You should not. The resin binder in quartz can scorch or discolor under direct heat, and thermal shock can crack a slab. Use a trivet. This is one of the few areas where natural granite outperforms quartz, and it catches people who assume an engineered stone surface is heatproof.
Is modern laminate better than it used to be?
